Reigning Sabalenka Claims Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Accolades.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive year.
The 27-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – which included successfully defending the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a tour-best nine championship matches, with losses coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second straight year.
This past summer, she became the first player to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams in 2015.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka concluded the competitive year with a 63-12 win-loss record, and earned a historic £11m in prize money.
She received almost 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
Later this month, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "elevate women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking a extended hiatus after the arrival of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko was honored with the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and rising to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after capturing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after advancing to five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted fans' favourite for a third consecutive time.
